Google wants to benefit the "developers" African impact of mobile applications market, estimated at $ 15 billion worldwide, said Monday in Dakar Google bureau chief French Tidjane Deme.
"The number of mobile lines is estimated at seven million and a half in Senegal, 550 million on the African continent. We see an opportunity," he said on the sidelines of G-Senegal, a forum organized by the American search engine on the theme "Growing Local, Global Impact".
says Deme, this event aims to create a framework for interaction between engineers from Google and the developer community and Senegalese entrepreneurs.
"What we want," he said, is to train developers and Senegalese entrepreneurs to master new tools that will enable Google to develop content and make the Internet more interesting and attract more users. "
Based on a survey dated January 2009, the bureau chief said French Google $ 15 billion market for mobile applications worldwide.
"The question we ask is how to ensure that African developers can take advantage of these opportunities there. The figures are not yet very high for Africa," he pointed out.
"What we want is precisely to build in the medium term ecosystem qi will enable Africans to take advantage of these opportunities, "added the French leader of Google Desktop.
" What we wanted to do in Africa is to develop tools that are relevant. For example, we launched last year in Senegal, Google-maps, our mapping platform that creates a geo-localized information and thus make it more relevant, "recalled Mr. Deme.
He also said his company has launched Google baraza which, he said, is a question and answer platform, designed to provide an opportunity for Africans to address themselves to issues that are relevant for the continent.
"We launched localized versions of our tools, like Google in Wolof, which is an effort to make the Internet a more welcoming space for local languages," he noted.
