3rd Trimester Heavy Pulse

41 - Obtaining federal benefits for child

Federal benefits for children include:
  • The Tax Benefit (CCTB) is a tax-free monthly payment made to eligible families to help them provide for their children less than 18 years.
  • The Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) is a monthly taxable benefit paid to eligible families to provide direct financial assistance towards their needs for child care for children under six years. This Benefit provides direct support to all families with young children, to help pay for child care, regardless of the type of care they have chosen. This financial benefit is part of Canada's Universal Child Care Canada, a plan that also supports the creation of child care spaces in communities across Canada.
First, I went on the website of the Canada Revenue Agency to complete a registration form for all federal benefit programs for child behalf of our Filipino child. I had to determine where I was send this form, to be completed by the female parent . Once finished, I printed the form, and we both signed (my spouse and me). Before sending the form, I joined the certified photocopy by a notary, the Immigrant Visa (large form inside the Philippine passport for our child). I knew that processing time was 4 weeks and that benefits will begin on months of our arrival in Quebec child because I had phoned before our trip to get information.

Then I went on the website of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to register for electronic services and to get the Epass Canada. I followed the following steps: Click
  • Register
  • Browse page epass Canada Information and click Continue
  • Enter information for registration and click Continue
  • Follow the instructions online to choose a user ID and password
Afterwards, I expected to receive, by mail, the security code CRA to consult and manage my file. Once I received my security code CRA , I checked the expiration date security code to ensure I complete my registration before the security code expires. Then I went on the website of the Revenue Agency (CRA) and I made the following steps: Click

  • Click Log .
  • Browse page Information epass Canada and click on Continue .
  • On page Login or register epass Canada enter my user ID and my password, then click Log .
  • through the page of Home epass Canada and click on Continue .
  • On page code entry security of RCA, enter my security code and click Continue .
  • Follow the instructions online.
Thereafter, to access this service at any time I just had to log in with my user ID and password for my epass Canada. It will remain valid indefinitely if I use it at least once a year. In addition, My Folder , allowed me access to my personal tax information and services, 7 days week, 21 hours day. The service allowed me to see where I went benefit payments for children and families, change my address or phone number , arrange for the deposit directly t and much more.

Then I enrolled to direct deposit for the Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) and the Canada Child Tax Benefit, so that my payments will be deposited into my account at my bank the same day as the date of issue. For that, I went on the website of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and I made the following steps: Click
  • Log .
  • Browse page Information epass Canada and click on Continue .
  • Enter user ID and password .
  • Click Login . Browse
  • page of Home epass Canada and click on Continue .
  • Enter the password again and click Continue.
  • Click Organize my direct deposit.
  • Click Start in box Universal Child Care Benefit Children and box tax benefit children .
  • Enter information or use the information on the existing direct deposit and click Continue .
Finally, I received the first installments of my federal child benefits (CCTB and UCCB) months following the my claim and also included the first payments credited months. These benefits were paid to me 20th of each month. However, I should note that the Universal Child Care Benefit Child Care was taxable and should be included in my income tax on income. However, if I were married or living common-law, the spouse with the lower net income should include the provision in its tax return income, irrespective of the person who received the payments.

regard to the opinion the Universal Child Care children, I would advise Agency Canada Revenue if the information had changed or were incorrect. Also, I had to notify the Canada Revenue Agency for Child Tax Benefit , if there was information has changed or incorrect. Moreover, if I did not agree with these opinions, I could do opposition. I had to show my opposition not later than the later the following dates: year after the date on which I had to file my return for the year indicated on the notice or within 90 days the date of this notice. However, my opposition to the Universal Child Care would be treated as an objection to the Canada Child Tax Benefit under the Income Tax Act income as the Universal Child Care Benefit to children is established in my Eligibility for Child Tax Benefit.

Also, I had to redo one of request direct deposit for Benefit Universal Child Care because I received a check. Subsequently, I received a notice of direct deposit for my payments to the Universal Child Care.

Finally, when we had the birth certificate our son, I was able to proceed name change (name Quebec) of the child in my care for my Child Tax Benefit ( CCTB) and my Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) . I called the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to inform them and the agent told me to write them a letter that would disclose this request with my details and send them a certified copy (by a notary) of the certificate of birth of our son.
