We chose a travel agency in our region, because the agency, presented by our organization, was a little more for our tickets in economy class. The only requirement that the agency has suggested, was that our trip's itinerary did not include a stopover in the United States. Our itinerary was Montreal - Vancouver , Vancouver - Tokyo Narita , Tokyo Narita - Manila . Also, we purchased a return ticket for our child, along with our return tickets. In addition, my stepfather was with us in the Philippines, so he bought it, too, his return ticket.
Regarding the hotel , we chose Edsa Shangri-La because it was the only hotel available, according to our travel agency, near the family home our child (Mandaluyong). Moreover, it was very long before our officer found a hotel, she made several calls. Also, our travel agent advised us not to book a hotel online, because we were in danger, they say, once arrived in the Philippines do not have our room booked. Most couples choose their hotel Internet, but we prefer not to take any chances.
In addition, when purchasing our Tickets and hotel reservations, travel agent suggested we travel insurance, we have made. By cons, we should let it go, because my spouse's group insurance had travel insurance. However, travel insurance for our child, nor the travel agency and neither the group insurance from my spouse could not cover it. So, my husband phoned the insurance company Blue Cross to take out travel insurance for our son to his 2 names (Filipino and Quebec).
Finally, we have sent by fax our organization, the itinerary of our trip (in English) and confirmation from the hotel (English), because our body was sent to the ICAB. In addition, the agency advised the Canadian Embassy in Manila for our dates. Also, the agency sent us by Xpresspost, a check, payable to the organization responsible for our child. We had to give this check to the the ICAB social worker , we would encounter during our stay in the Philippines. The check was for the costs of child custody and support project, which we had already paid to our agency, when sending to our acceptance of the twinning.
