HISTORY OF THE TRINITY RIVER

HISTORY OF THE TRINITY RIVER
Historically, the St. Lawrence Paper Company Ltd. held the exclusive fishing rights on the rivers Grande and Little Trinity in the 30s until early 60s when it sold its rights to the company Domtar.
Formerly the preserve of wealthy people, members of the private club of Domtar, the river was liberated in May 1976. Thus ended 50 years of exclusive lease where only the leaders and their guests had the opportunity to enjoy it. Indeed, following pressure from the people of Bay - Trinidad, eager to better participate in the management of wildlife resources, recreation and tourism from its middle, the MTCP was dealing properties, facilities and the exclusive rights of the Company to Society for the Development of Baie-Trinité inc. newly formed. This was the culmination of a unique time in Quebec, where a management company to nonprofit delegate saw such a mandate for stewardship salmon rivers. In 1978 in the same wave, the reservation hunting and fishing in Baie-Trinité was thus created by Order in Council adding to the two existing reserves (Trinity River and Little Trinity) in the territory of 356 km2 located between them.

Trinity River later became the Zec (Controlled Zone) of the Trinity River. In 1982 because of its location, its relative importance and its facilities (metering station and recording salmon) Great Trinity River was considered representative for the Upper North Shore and therefore became "River Experiment" or research managers undertook a research project devoted to the salmon project, which is made possible thanks to the good functioning of the fishway at the same River Dam Great Trinity. This project allows the company that manages the Great Trinity River to keep a high potential for the future of salmon. We can not forget to thank people who have been part of events for the release of the river and the Boards of Directors of Planning Corporation of Trinity Bay thanks to whom we owe this gem.

Presidents since the founding: Jacques Landry, Louis C. Roussy, Richard Dion, George Gagnon, Denis Lejeune. Many salmon anglers swear by now that this river, visiting year after year as if they were to give thanks for the many emotions experienced throughout their attendance. Located on the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, 95 kilometers from Baie - Comeau, the river flows from the beautiful north to south 75 km before flowing to the height of the village of Baie-Trinité.

Consequently, the popularity of the Great Trinity River and Trinity Zec whole is growing. It is now clear that Trinity Bay has establish itself as a tourist attraction on the North Shore for its hospitality and facilities especially for the quality of the salmon resource available.
